Pale lemon yellow in colour ('Giallo dei Muri' points to the sandstone hue of
the walls), it is a deliciously light, understated blend of Vermentino (50%)
Trebbiano & Malvasia (25%) Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay (25%)
displaying fresh white stone-fruit aromas while the bitter almond palate is
very pure, mouth-filling yet delicate at the same time. 5% was barrel fermented
to provide a gentle structure, while the rest was vinified in stainless-steel.
Perfect with a summer salad of broad beans & parmigiano.

Replacing the 'Giallo dei Muri', this new biodynamic wine retains Vermentino
(60%) at its heart yet displays a more perfumed, bright floral character,
matched by a fresh, energetic citrus and orange fruit compote and grounded by a
notable minerality that comes from their new sandstone-based vineyard; aided of
course by a propitious vintage. Delicious now and over the next couple of
years, on its own or with all manner of starters.

'Palistorti' means 'crooked poles', a reference to the difficulty in erecting
vine poles in the good old days due to the rocky soil. By contrast this wine is
refreshingly upright & alive on the nose, with intense spicy cassis &
plum skin aromatics, a light-medium bodied (13% abv) blend of Sangiovese (70%)
Merlot (15%) & Syrah (15%) it has both a suave fruitiness & subtle
elegance. Fine tannins complete the picture. A great food wine - try with
mediterranean-style chicken dishes.

While the 05 remains pacy with red-fruited perfume, this 2006 blend of 70%
Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 15% Syrah is undoubtedly fuller and blacker, decadent
almost with a minty, liquorice lift, while violet creams dominate the palate,
such is the dense black chocolate texture and character of the palate; a wine
that was vinified in 60% oak and 40% cement. Best tucked away for several years
before serving with a shoulder of lamb.

From an excellent vintage, this densely rich, cassis perfumed full-bodied blend
of Sangiovese (60%) Syrah (20%) Merlot (20%) shows a very fine weave, succulent
fruit & substantial yet fine tannins to allow further develpment over the
next 5 years. A 'super-tuscan' of sorts, it should complement a shoulder of
lamb well but needs two hours' decanting beforehand.

"Compared to the denser, cellar-worthy 2004 Tenuta, the 2005 is unequivocally
more perfumed with pretty red-fruited Sangiovese high-notes, yet as ever finely
structured and intricately detailed. Facilitated by fantastic terroir
overlooking Lucca and brought to life through biodynamics, the unorthodox blend
of Franco-Italian grapes (60% Sangiovese 20% Syrah 20% Merlot) dates back to
the early 19th century, to a time when Napoléon Bonaparte's sister
Elisa governed this French protectorate; something not lost on the team at
Valgiano. Delicious with chicken paella."
