Laurona
Celler
Laurona is a joint venture between Christopher Cannan of
Bordeaux-based fine wine traders Europvin and wine maker Rene
Barbier, whose own Clos Mogador (Priorat) is one of Spain's most
prestigious wines.
The state-of-the art winery is located close to the centre of Falset, at the heart of wine trade activity in Priorat, one and a half hours from Barcelona. The wines are produced in limited quantities and are classified under the recently created DO Montsant.
Farming follows organic principles on soils of varied composition- sand, clay and gravel, as well as the famous Priorat schist, called "llicorella". Harvesting is by hand and only for fully ripe grapes. Winemaking is in the capable hands of Rene Barbier. All the wines undergo 12-14 months ageing in a mixtured of new and one-year old French oak.
