Nibbiale is a recent addition to our list.
Due south-east of Grosseto liethe vineyards of Morellino di Scansano DOC, a part of Tuscany which has in recent years enjoyed a revival due to the fresh, juicy,immediate style of their wines; the product of a Sangiovese clone, Morellino.
Dr Nikolaus Buchheim and Dr Elke Buchheim-Haefner bought the 11.5ha Poggio Nibbiale (`Red Kite Hill') in 1998, replanting it at a higher density. Yields are kept low, with fermentation taking place in stainless-steel and 6 months' ageing in French oak. The consultant winemaker is Massimo Albanese.
