Loupiac

Loupiac belongs to a cluster of less-known appellations in Bordeaux (St. Macaire, Cadillac and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont) that specialise in the production of white sweet wines from a blend of Semillion and Sauvignon Blanc.

Although on the opposite bank of the Garonne from Sauternes, the soils and weather conditions in Loupiac are very suitable for producing sweet wines by botrytis cinerea.  Only 370 hectares are under vine and the wine is a delicious, if slightly simple, but good value alternative to Sauternes.
