Marcarini

Poderi Marcarini is a Piedmont estate that can trace its roots back to in the mid-1800s, when Giuseppe Tarditi established his winery in La Morra, in the heart of the Barolo wine region. Today it is owned and managed by Giuseppe's great, great, granddaughter, Luisa Bava and her husband Manuel Marchetti. There are 12 hectares of vineyards planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Moscato.

Its finest wines are the Nebbiolo-based Barolos from the Brunate and La Serra vineyards. These are well-structured, rich Barolos that are deeply coloured and display pronounced, but supple, tannins in youth. After five years or so of bottle ageing, they exhibit classic mature Nebbiolo bouquets of tar, liquorice, tobacco and violets. An exemplary source for fine Barolos.

To Manuel Marchetti his 2004s Barolos remind him of 2001 or 1999, either way both excellent vintages for his pair of single vineyard wines. La Serra perches vertiginously below the walls of La Morra, Barolo's highest village lying directly across the valley from ... MORE
