March Staff Choice: 2007 Saint-Joseph, Domaine Pierre Gonon
This wine is captivating, displaying the assets of the vintage in terms of
richness and concentration, standing out from many other wines with its
individuality, transparency and sense of place.
From the nose to the finish balance is the key word, nothing dominates; oak
ageing (in 600 Litres demi-muids) is far from intrusive and provides a much
softer, rounded fruit profile.
This wine is packed of personality, purity, elegance, depth and focus and,
while it offers great approachability now, it suggests that it will reward the
patient.
For all these reasons it stands at the very top of my buying list. (Francis
