No area taxes the Berrys’ buyer’s powers of self-restraint more
than the South of France, such is the diversity and potential of this beautiful
area. From the Catalan heartlands of Roussillon, all the way over to
Cézanne’s sun-drenched hills in Provence, a bounteous vinous
canvas unfolds and every year new and exciting producers are uncovered to add
to an already ambitious list. New arrivals this year include the bio-dynamic
D’Aupilhac, a truly excellent St Chinian from Domaine Linquière, a
magnificent Viognier from St Ferréol, a great Cinsault from Yves
Falmet… we could go on…

Spanish self-confidence abounds: from last year’s sporting triumphs in
the European Championships and at Wimbledon, to the architectural flamboyance
of the Bilbao Guggenheim and the cultural achievements of Almavodar…
Spain is on a high. This is wonderfully illustrated by the diversity and
quality of wines that it now produces, from the classic traditional Riojas,
through to the great names of Ribera del Duero and Priorat and, of course, the
new and exciting enclaves such as Cigales, Rueda, Monsant, Alicante and Toro.
Add an impressive and eclectic selection from Portugal and one has indeed a
tasting to savour and treasure.

this will be no exception. Our Italian wine buyer, David Berry Green, has
trawled the length and breadth of the peninsula in search of new gems, and what
a line-up he has found for you. Meet the new faces of Castello di Ama (Chianti
Classico), Fontecolle (Sagrantino), Fonterenza and La Cerbaiona (Montalcino),
Morella (Primitivo) and Giovanni Rosso (Barolo), along with old favourites such
as Sandrone, Quintarelli, Giuseppe Mascarello, Cigliuti, Valgiano and Miani.

This event is at odds with the usual running of a Berrys’ Cellar Luncheon
as your Champagne aperitif will be served 12.15pm so that you can meet and be
entertained by the charismatic Valentino Monticello. Valentino is an artist,
but oils and gouache do not figure in his portraits and scenes, instead they
are created from cut out wine labels in the form of unique collages. His
passion for fine wine doesn’t end there – in the mid-1980s he was
head sommelier in the famous Harry’s Bar. Over an Italian-inspired lunch,
you will be treated to amazing tales of life, opera and art, whilst indulging
in wines that have inspired Valentino’s great artistry.

There are few places more suited to the vine than Alsace. Colmar, the
region’s viticultural capital, tops the French sunshine league, while the
overarching presence of the Vosges Mountains makes for low rainfall and a rich
tapestry of soils. At this stunning luncheon you’ll discover the
diversity, complexity and sheer brilliance of Alsace’s wines through
tasting an array of its finest Grand Cru wines.

will present a guide to the fundamental rules to successful food and wine
matching and will talk you through six wines with specific characteristics such
as high acidity, tannin, new oak and sweetness, and explain what foods they
pair with and why. You will put your newfound skills immediately into practice
