We love the wines from this village which is a little more sheltered than Gigondas. They are generally generous of fruit with a rounded, almost velvety texture. Truffles, raspberries and the faintest of autumnal whispers combine in this rich and silky Cairanne. MORE

Vinsobres is, according to Marc Perrin, the natural homestead of the Syrah variety, its altitude and geographical make-up perhaps not dissimilar to the Northern Rhône. Les Cornuds is accordingly beautifully perfumed, with notes of jasmine and lavender highlighting a savoury mid-palate flourish and ripe and expressive fruit overlaying silky tannins. MORE

A serious wine from a serious vintage, L’Andéol is a five hectare vineyard, located on the gentle south-facing slopes of Rasteau which are protected from the worst excesses of the Mistral. This is a great expression of Grenache, with peppers, figs, dark chocolate and spices in the ascendant, and a finely-wrought tannic structure discrete in the background. MORE

André Romero praises his 2007 Rasteau as his best ever wine. A firm, mineral foundation and notes of pepper and spice complement the savoury (almost sauvage) Mourvèdre, resulting in incredible concentration and length. MORE

Sourced from the very best villages in the Southern Rhône, namely Valréas, Vinsobres and Rasteau, this is a fantastic Côtes du Rhône, self-evidently punching above its putative weight. This is more than confirmed by the palate; sweet Grenache at the core but with plenty of Syrah colour and grip lending support. Jean Louis spends a lot of time on this cuvée, the benefit of  which should soon become abundantly clear.
