This property produces one of St Julien’s most full-bodied and long-lived wines. Where Gruaud is sometimes described as ‘monolithic’ or‘four square’ this example is far from it. Medium to full-bodied with pure, rich blackcurrant flavours and notes of liquorice and herbs, this is a very elegant wine, steering away from the massive, muscular styles provided by many other châteaux in 1996. Drink until 2020.
