A terrific expression of Volnay which has benefitted from the inclusion of a
significant chunk of Premier Cru grapes (about a quarter of the total) in the
blend. Delicious clear red fruit dominates with violet overtones, fine tannins
and an attractive mineral finish.
Drink: 2010-2014.

Marsau represents an ideal compromise between a classic Bordeaux style and the
more modern drinking clarets. The 2006 effort is a soft, jammy wine but with a
good, firm structure that knits the wine together very nicely. This will drink
well from arrival and for another 5 years.

Margaux had a tough time of things in 2007 so it is particularly rewarding to
find a wine like Du Tertre that has outperformed the vintage with such
concentration, personality and class. Their 59% Cabernet Sauvignon is the
highest proportion ever at Du Tertre and its lushness helped make this wine
such a success. A fragrant black fruit and eucalyptus nose leads on to a
refined but velvety palate with creamy, spicy, ripe blackberry fruit, dark
chocolate, melted tannins and a long, firm finish. Another impressive effort
from one of the rising stars of Bordeaux

This is always an impressive cuvée for generic Bourgogne Rouge. The 2006 has a
pure, clear, delicious style of fruit and will be very attractive for drinking
over the next three years.

"Fruity and refined, with berry, tobacco and mineral character. Good wine this

This superb powerful Claret is made from grapes from the estate’s oldest vines.
Generous, cedary and crammed full of pure red berries, black cherries and plum
flavours, this is beautifully balanced and fresh and ripe, making it a real
pleasure to drink.

The Chevaliers de Védrines who owned this property for centuries (until
1840) would be proud of the job that the Castéja family have done here.
Doisy-Védrines is one of the stars of the 2005 vintage for its sublime
elegance, richness and finesse.
A terrific, fine, perfumed nose with a lifting touch of botrytis acts as the
impressive entrée for a wonderfully pure Sauternes of extraordinary length. The
wine is like an immaculately tailored suit on a perfectly formed body. This is
highly reminiscent of their truly exceptional 1989. Drink 2010-2020.

Anybody who has tasted the sensational 1989 Doisy-Védrines will want to snap up
the equally good 2007 in an instant. As well as being one of the sweetest wines
of the vintage it is exceptionally elegant and well-balanced. The nose is
marked by intense, icy-cool tropical citrus while the rich yet fresh palate has
wonderfully pure, sweet creamy pineapple fruit, plenty of botrytis and fine
balancing acidity. The finish is incredibly long and precise. Made from 95%
Sémillon and 5% Sauvignon Blanc, this is a magically sensual Sauternes at an
outstanding price.

For the uninitiated, Ch. de Fonbel (from the same stable as the legendary
Ausone) represents one of the best value wines available on the market. A St.
Emilion that is classic in style as opposed to the more modern, extracted
format - Fonbel has an elegance and finesse running through it that
so many St. Emilion wines lack today. The 2006 is cool, elegant and
balanced. Cherries and white pepper spice burst into the nose and there
is charming blackcurrant fruit on the palate, with surprising
complexity. This is a bargain at the price.
