Cassis and red currant aromas give way to some dusty cedar and notes of Indian
spice; classic Gruaud Larose! There is an upfront sweetness to the palate with
a deep core of black fruit that is guided and honed by fine drying tannins. The
acidity is in perfect balance, suggesting this will age superbly.

The 2006 is living up to all the promise we saw when tasted from cask in April
2007. The château and vineyards lie over vast cellars cut into the
limestone and it is this ancient rock that imparts itself into the wine with
its alluring, smokey nose which is followed by plenty of very precise,
perfectly refined fruit. It really is a stylish wine of elegance, but with
structure too - and nothing has been stretched to achieve this. A slightly
higher proportion of Merlot means this will be drinking sooner than some
vintages, though 2011-2016 should see it at its best.

Delightfully rich, ripe and fragrant black fruit and cream notes abound on the
bouquet. The palate lives up to the promise of the nose with supple,
mouthfilling black fruit and hints of spice supported by silky smooth tannins.
A superb concentrated wine in a feminine style.

This just blew every other white we tasted out of the water. Made from 87%
Sémillon and 13% Sauvignon Blanc, the perfect climate conditions have
helped create an absolute gem. The wine is marked by a wonderful harmony and
elegance; white peach, passion fruit, citrus and cream all combine in a
glorious, pure, racy style, while the minerality is reminiscent of Burgundy's
superstars Coche-Dury and Leflaive. The nose is creamy, pure and expressive
while the sleek, exotic palate builds in the mouth to a stunning finish. This
is the white wine of the vintage, without a shadow of doubt.

We had been a bit disappointed with the quality of the Second wines in 2006
until we tasted this astonishingly good Forts de Latour. We scored this wine
better than the two Pichons, which were themselves two of the best Second
Growths in 2006. This has outstanding balance and pedigree from the dense,
dark, aromatic nose to the very long, pure finish. The wine reflects the
elegance of 2006 with lifted, cool black fruit on the palate, a great structure
and savoury tannins.

Director Pierre Lurton has one of the best and hardest jobs in Bordeaux,
managing two of the region's great estates, Cheval Blanc and d'Yquem. In 2006
he been successful once again producing what he rightly calls 'a cashmere'
Cheval Blanc. It is an outstanding wine, with a stylish, velvety texture, power
and elegance and a lovely mouthwatering freshness. It has more Merlot than
usual giving it a seductive richness, along with concentrated raspberry,
blackberry and plum fruit and supple tannins. Just as you think you have tasted
everything, another wave of fruit sweeps in on the long finish. Drink:

"Lynch Bages 2006 is the best young Lynch I have ever tasted and I'm certain
this will go down in this great Chateaux's history, as one of their finest
ever. Its a true marvel; Dark viscous purple/black in colour with an elating
nose of vibrant blackcurrants and vanilla/double cream. On the palate it has the
texture and weight of olive oil,so hedonistically concentrated but with such
rich ripe black fruits it takes your breath away. The core and finish is so
cool, defined and sumptuous that I really cant find a single quality it lacks. A
staggering bottle of wine that will probably be like an 1982 ie delicious all
through its life."

Ch. Latour 2006 is the wine of the vintage. The pure, dark chocolate and cassis
nose is followed by a palate of enormous intensity with lashings of cool
blackberries and cream, minerals, cedar and coffee. The length of the finish is
astonishing too - as if the wine is still in your mouth. Engerer says he did
not aim for power in 2006 but a classical richness and lively minerality - the
result is similar in style to the 'intellectual' 2005 'at the crossroads of
elegance and refinement and power and richness'. He's right; it's very nearly
as good too.

Currently closed and backward, this wine seems to share a more similar
character to Trotanoy than in any recent vintages I recall. Powerful,
structured, masculine, but a long-term proposition, this dark
ruby/purple-colored wine displays notes of caramelized, sweet black cherries
and wild berry fruit with plenty of spice, earth, and a hint of herbaceousness.
The wine has very high tannins, impressive concentration, but that
mouth-searing level of tannin. This is one Petrus that should probably be
forgotten for at least 8-10 years and drunk over the following two to three
decades...
