Burgundy 2010 Berrys' Recommendations

There was no hype for 2010 Burgundy at the time of the vintage (unlike Bordeaux) but the wines which have just been bottled, or soon will be, have turned out to be something special.

Key Vintage Points
  • A small crop, with volumes often down 30% to 50% from 2009
  • Delicious reds in a classic style, with excellent balance between fruit, acidity and tannins
  • Whites mostly very impressive, excepting some affected by the storm. Generous wines with good acidity, and Chablis is superb
  • Some upward price pressure, but mostly in line with 2009
We have three producers new to our En Primeur release this year. A very promising youngster, Sébastien Magnien who is based in Meursault, and two recognised names from Gevrey-Chambertin in Domaines Alain Burguet and Denis Mortet, in both cases with their very able sons at the helm.
