Burghound Best Picks Côte de Nuits 2010

Allen Meadows' Burghound.com published in January 2012 his assessment on the 2010 Burgundy vintage for Côte de Nuits. The list of his wine recommendations are below and part of Berrys' 2010 offering:

2010 – An Exciting and Ultra-Classic Vintage of Refinement, Balance and Superb Transparency

...the most successful 2010s Côte de Nuits Reds are wonderfully fresh, precise, energetic and transparent with ripe and exceptionally fine-grained tannins. They are a first-class pleasure to drink because they are so aromatically pure and perhaps more important from a mouth feel perspective, have this beguiling sense of underlying tension that practically begs for another sip....

As to longevity, there is simply no way to generalize as there are 2010s in every category, which is to say wines that are built for the short, mid and long-terms, and in a few cases, the exceptionally long-term (25 years plus).

The average 2010 is firmly structured but not at all aggressive because of one, the abundance of mid-palate concentration to buffer the structure; two, the structural elements are all quite ripe, which takes away any sense of aggressiveness from the tannins, and; three, the acid levels are in keeping with the ripeness of the tannins, which means that the acidity does not have the tendency to accentuate the perception of astringency...
