Rhône wines are still, in the grand scheme
of things, reasonably priced and the 2008s, in the context of
this vintage, are fairly priced indeed. Overall, 2008 is a classic,
traditional and very approachable vintage. 2008 has a lot of the
charm of 2004 and 2006, both of which we like, but is, overall, superior
to them both. The producers in our 2008 Rhône En Primeur
Offer have achieved superb levels of quality from a difficult year,
and the featured wines represent excellent value for money.
Rhône 2008 – at a
glance
* A short crop with low yields produced wines with attractive, soft yet ripe
fruit and supple tannin structures.
* Excellent medium-term keepers, the wines are similar in style to 2006 which
is currently being re-evaluated in an upwards
direction.
* The white wines are fresh and harmonious, both in the North and the
South.
* Fewer prestige cuvées; all the best fruit has gone into the domaine
wines, resulting in an increase in quality.
