Wine News

Continuing the theme of off-the-wall, non-traditional offerings, a new Nintendo DS game looks set to appeal to wine lovers. Launching in Japan only and retailing at JPY2940 (£12.75), Beginners Wine DS will hit shelves in November.

In a bid to secure a new profile of viewers, the main player in the handheld console market intends to capture the female and adult market by offering step-by-step instructions on choosing a bottle of wine, a wine database and a quiz section.

'They want to reach new audiences, such as adults - particularly women - so they are expanding beyond the traditional types of games, into more educational games and quizzes,' said Klee Kuo, a spokesperson for Tokyo-based Square Enix, the game's developer.

Further augmenting their profile, Nintendo is also due to release Bartender DS, a game designed for aspiring mixologists.
