2009 Good Ordinary Claret
2009 was a stellar vintage in Bordeaux, with very few estates escaping the blanket of excellence that fell over both sides of the Gironde. It stands to reason, therefore, that the 2009 vintage of our perennially-popular Good Ordinary Claret should have been subject to the same desirable fate, and we were not disappointed.
Going well above 'Good' and far beyond 'Ordinary,' this is without a doubt the finest Good Ordinary Claret we have produced to date, and Dourthe, the highly respected Bordeaux producer who creates the blend for us, have outdone themselves. Our Fine Wine Director Simon Staples comments: 'once again outdoing its name, this wine is juicy, succulent and quite frankly the best we've ever had to date.'
The 2009 vintage displays all the hallmarks of our most popular wine, and builds upon them in spades. The Merlot offers the rich fruit characteristics and plump, ripe palate, while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides the elegant structure for this sophisticated wine. Perfect for drinking now but equally able to age for a few years, we really are particularly proud this year to put our name to this exceptionally un-ordinary wine.
See the update from Max Lalondrelle, our Fine Wine Buying Director, as he explains the process behind selecting the blend for our Good Ordinary Wines, and creates the next vintage at Dourthe. View the post on our blog.
