Kir Yianni
Domaine Kir-Yianni
is located in Naoussa, a mountainous region of North-Western Greece. It was
founded in 1997 by Yiannis Boutaris, an influential figure in the Greek wine
scene, and one of the forerunners in the era of single vineyard
wine-making and a driving force for the revival of the much prized
Naoussa appellation.
The unique microclimate of the vineyards favours the cultivation of Xinomavro, the noble indigenous variety of Northern Greece, as well as that of cosmopolitan varieties such as Syrah, Merlot and Cab. Sauvignon.
Innovation and quality have always been the twin pillars of the Domaine's philosophy, best exemplified in its vineyard and wine-making practices (organic farming, low yields, clonal selection, dividing the property in small plots to micro-manage the vinification, minimal fining or filtration).
Kir-Yianni remains one of the elite producers in Greece, having also won much international acclaim. The oldest son of the Yannis Boutaris, Stellios, is now at the helm of the company.
