Jo Pithon
Jo Pithon established his
domaine in 1978 and now has 10 hectares of vineyaards including plots in Quarts
de Chaume and Savennières. Just as canines can resemble their masters, so wines
often mirror their makers. Jo Pithon's pure, rich Chenin Blancs all possess
great individuality and personality.
He works his 12 hectares of vineyards, south of Angers, organically and with immense care. For his dry wines, Jo seeks full ripeness yet no botrytic influence to maintain freshness; for his sweet Chenins he aims for noble rot complexity throughout.
Only wild yeasts are used and the wines are sufficiently richly structured to warrant new oak élévage. These remarkable wines demand further investigation.
