Filigare
The estate of Le Filigare was originally a weekend retreat for Carlo Burchi, a goldsmith by trade but whose love of vines and wines gradually took over his life. He began making wine from the 6 existing hectares of vines in 1980 and began planting new vineyards in 1990.
Burchi now has 10 hectares of DOCG Chianti Classico and 2 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon that goes into their Supertuscan, Podere Le Rocce. The Filigare vineyards are all south facing slopes with excellent drainage and at 400-500 metres do not suffer from fog and frost. The soils are principally sandstone with a stony overlay. Carlo is now assisted by his amiable son, Filippo, and winemaker Dr Luciano Bandini.
The Filigare wines are striking in their elegance, complexity and finesse alongside the weight and ripeness of the fruit. They are wines that will improve with cellaring, the Maria Vittoria and Le Rocce particularly.
