Domaine de la Cessane

Domaine de la Cessane's proprietors Philippe Maurel and Stéphane Vedeau are in the business of making fresh, flavourful varietal wines at very reasonable prices using the usual techniques of the conscientious. Both are experienced viticulturalists and winemakers and they began working together in 1992 in the Languedoc-Roussillon area. They realised that some of the region's soils and microclimates have the potential to produce excellent wines and began setting up partnerships with existing growers.

The partnerships rely on common methods including open canopies in the vineyard, low yields, manual harvesting and modern vinification techniques. Domaine de la Cessane is no exception. Situated in the Languedoc, its vineyards are well exposed with chalky-clay soils. The vines are trained high to maximise the effect of the sun and viticultural treatments are kept to an absolute minimum. Low yields (averaging 50hl/ha) maximise the typical expression of each variety
