Château Haut-Rian
In the Premières-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation and owned by M. Dietrich, this 76 hectare property produces on average Red: 18,000 cases and White: 23,000 cases per year.
Located in the Graves de Vayres appellation (but entitled to the Premières-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation), the property and appellation have a similar climate to that enjoyed by the Entre-Deux-Mers: warmer than the maritime Médoc but not as wet.
The key to the quality of this appellation's wine is as much soil as the aspect. Its vineyards (Red: Merlot 50%; Cabernet Sauvignon 40%; Cabernet Franc 10%; White: Sémillon 70%; Sauvignon Blanc 30%) lie on a gravelly topsoil with a clay/limestone subsoil.
