Clearview Estate
Tim Turvey was told in 1988 when he bought his property at Te Awanga, Hawkes Bay, that it was "too cold to grow wine grapes". He took this as a challenge, and brought the bare land. The first vines were planted in winter 1988. With his partner Helma Van den Berg they planted 3 acres of vineyard per annum.
Fifteen years down the track they have achieved remarkable wines.
Their Clearview Estate reserve whites and reds are infused with the complexity of barrel ferments and French oak influence. Complexities achieved from skin contact (whites), extended maceration (reds), lees stirring and contact, malolactic fermentation and super ripe fruit.
