Du Toitskloof Wine Cellar
Du Toitskloof Wine
Cellar is located in a scenically beautiful area near the town of
Rawsonville in the Breede River Valley, at the entrance to the
spectacular Du Toitskloof Mountain Pass.
The winery has built up a reputation as a producer of excellent quality wines at highly competitive prices. Not only has it received numerous quality awards over the years but for the past six years Du Toitskloof was crowned four times the best-value winery in South Africa in the annual competition organised by the WINE magazine. And in one of the other two years the cellar was the runner up. DTK was established by six wine farmers as a co-operative winery in 1962.
Today it has 22 members, many of them second-generation descendants of the founding members. They all live in a close-knit community within a radius of 10 km from the cellar and all take a close interest in its activities.
Winemaking is characterised by close co-operation between the winemaking team under cellar master Philip Jordaan and members. The stony soils of the area are ideally suited to grape growing. Being close to the mountains, the high winter rainfall sufficiently builds up die water table to necessitate only limited irrigation in the dry summer months. Due to the lack of summer rain the vineyards are generally very healthy and free of viruses.
