The magus of Tournon, M Faurie is a quiet, softly-spoken individual. His garage-cum-cellar is a chaotic model of disorder and confusion and he often seems unsure as to which wines are located in which barrels. And yes, you have guessed it, all is is rendered miraculously irrelevant by the alchemical processes that have actually produced the wines. Eschewing destemming, and favouring lengthy elevage, M Faurie, is certainly old school. The type of school, evidently, that everyone will fight to get into. Given the paucity of allocation, the fight may be a keen one in the great vintage of 2009.
The combination of the granitic musculature of Les Bessards and the aromatic purity of Le Gréffieux is a harmonious one; the 2013 has charming aromatics, supple tannins and a pure, rounded fruit character. It embodies, in other words, all the best features of the vintage, and then adds a few more for good measure. Simon Field MW - Rhône Buyer Working from a chaotic garage in the backstreets of Mauves does not appear to be immediately promising in terms of potential quality. Yet, for over 40 years and with holdings that are as modest in terms of size as they are significant in terms of location, M Faurie has been making wines of immense pedigree and longevity which have consistently ranked amongst the very best in the appellation.
