Raka Wine

The Raka Estate is a boutique South African winery owned by the Dreyer family which takes its name from Piet Dreyer’s black fishing boat. Piet was always an avid fisherman so it’s no surprise that when he sought a top site for a winery he established it close to the sea in a glen in the Kleinrivier Mountains, south -east of Hermanus.

The moderating influence of the sea breezes , allied to the lean, clay soils, impart a classic cool-climate flavour to the wines and it is this elegant refinement for which the Raka wines have become renowned in South Africa.

Quinary is one of their flagship wines, a Bordeaux blend in the classic Medoc proportions. At the winery the grapes are hand-sorted twice before undergoing fermentation in tank; the wine is then transferred to another tank for malolactic fermentation before being transferred to French oak barriques for ageing.
