Romano Nicola
Romano Nicola is locate around the village of Lapio lies among the Irpinian hills, some 350 metres above sea level & an hour east from the coast of the Campania wine region . Lapio is famous for the white wine grape Fiano di Avellino; it’s the birthplace in fact. Understandably the grape thrives on the calcareous soils, vertiginous well-ventilated slopes.
The Romano family came to Lapio in the 1980s when Fiano was better known for making sparkling wine. Their first vintage was in 1988. They own all of 4 hectares, circa 20,000 bottles, vinifying the Fiano only in stainless steel in order to capture the purest reflection of their minerally terreno/terroir.
Importantly, in 2008 Nicola Romano’s son Amerino returned from enological studies in Florence to take over the winemaking from the hired consultant. He has also started to vinify some Aglianico, as part of the Taurasi wine appellation.
