Pietraventosa
Located at 380 metres above sea level on the cooler, fractured limestone knoll of Gioia del Colle, prized for the quality of its Primitivo grapes, Pietraventosa is a brand new Puglian wine estate of 6 hectares making approximately 10,000 bottles a year.
The estate is owned by local girl Marianna Annio & her husband Raffaele, an engineer specializing in fermentation tanks! The vines were planted in 2005: mostly Primitivo but also a hectare of Aglianico. Harvest is by hand at levels of approximately 35 hectolitres/hectare (50 quintals), followed by vinification in stainless steel and maturation in oak (for the Riserva).
‘Allegoria’ is a 100% Primitivo, Gioia del Colle fermented only in stainless steel followed by a further 16 months, steel & bottle, prior to release; production approx. 3,600 bottles per annum. The Riserva enjoys a period of appassimento (partial grape desiccation) prior to fermentation, followed by 18 months in French tonneaux.
