Château Bergat
Château Bergat, a St.Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate produces some of the best value St. Emilions on the market today. Bergat is owned jointly by Emile Castéja (whose family owns the négociant firm, Borie Manoux, as well as prestigious estates including Château Batailley and Château Troplong-Mondot) and the Preben-Hansen family.
Bergat's 4 hectares of vineyards are located 2 kilometres west of the town of St. Emilion and are planted with Merlot (55%), Cabernet Franc (35%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). The grapes are hand-harvested and then fermented for approximately 3 weeks in temperature-controlled-stainless steel tanks. The wine is then matured in oak barriques (60% new) for 18 months before being lightly fined and then bottled.
Typically Bergat's wine is medium-bodied and exudes good levels of soft, red and black fruit with hints of vanilla-scented oak. The wines tend to show at their best with 4-5 years of bottle ageing.
