Conte Spagnoletti Zeuli

Lying on the in the stiletto-like heel of southern Italy, Puglia remains one of the country's most productive regions, mostly in bulk not bottle.

A new name to Berrys' list, Conte Spagnoletti Zeuli comprises two estates (Zagaria is one) and 400 hectares (modest by Puglian standards) around Andria, near Bari, with the majority devoted to olive groves.

Here the proximity of the Ionian and AdriaticSeas bring cooling on-shore breezes, while limestone rich clay soils are perfect for viticulture. Further relief from the heat come from vineyards lying high up at 300 metres above sea level. Vinification is largely traditional while élévage takes place in Alliers French oak barrels.
