Langwerth von Simmern
Life used to be much harder for Baron Langwerth von Simmern. Defending his castle, cellars and vineyards from invaders was a constant concern in the turbulent Middle Ages.
These days, the present Baron's only worries of invasion are from the vigorous vines growing on his renaissance mansion in Eltville, so he can concentrate on maintaining his highly-prized riverside vineyard of Mannberg in Hattenheim. In a prime site overlooking the River Rhine, the slopes of quartzite and marl produce full-flavoured wines of great power, elegance and longevity.
