Le Terrazze

Rosso Conero is one of the major red DOCs in the Marche region. It takes its name from the impressive central limestone massif of Monte Conero, which towers over the city of Ancona. As well as providing natural shelter for the port of Ancona, it also acts as protection for the vines of Rosso Conero. The town of Ancona has expanded over the years, leading to the Conero vineyards shrinking from over 400 hectares in the early 1970s to around 140 hectares today.

Fattoria Le Terrazze is one of the most celebrated producers in the region - its colourful owner Antonio Terni has been known to compare the Montepulciano grape to ";a block of marble waiting to be turned into a statue."; The wine is produced from Montepulciano and a maximum of 15% Sangiovese. These are fascinating wines that show what this underrated grape is capable of, under ideal growing conditions and with skilful vinification.

"The pinnacle of Le Terrazze's range, and rightly so: a beautifully pure 100% Montepulciano d'Abruzzo single varietal, single estate wine from prized limestone-based Monte Conero vineyards & an excellent vintage, where velvety red/black cherry stone fruit recline on a fresh, finely-poised minerally bed; not dissimilar to top St.Emilion in fact, as combines low tannins, suave fleshy fruit with dry-stone minerality. All wrapped up in 100% new french oak. Excellent with a superior Lasagna. Bravo Antonio, Johanna has never looked so exquisite!"
