Château Magdelaine

Magdelaine has 10.4 hectares of vineyards, of which 6 are on the famous St-Emilion limestone ridge and the remainder on clay/limestone-based slopes. Merlot performs particularly well on these limestone-rich soils and at Magdelaine it is the dominant grape, making up 90% of the blend, a higher proportion than found in any other St-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé. The grapes are fermented slowly and the wine is then matured using 50% new oak.

When young, Magdelaine can be austere and closed and should rarely be approached prior to its 6th birthday. When mature, it is a model of rich creamy elegance with seductive nuances of cassis, sweet tobacco, chocolate and vanilla. The best will last for 20 years and sometimes longer.
