Domaine Rabasse Charavin
Domaine Rabasse-Charavin is now recognised as one of the important estates of the southern Rhône. Corinne Couturier has run it since 1985 when she took it over from her father, Robert Charavin. Corinne is one of the leading personalities in the southern Rhône, known for her serious, concentrated, traditionally-made wines from old vines.
The domaine produces an impressive range of fine wines from its own vineyards spread out over the communes of Cairanne, Rasteau and Violes. The average vine age is high and most of the vineyards face directly south which allows the grapes to ripen beautifully in the baking sun of the region. Under Couturier, the wines are bottled 100% unfiltered, which adds to their richness and natural typicité.
Robert Parker gives the domaine four stars calling Corinne's wines "excellent, rich, opulent, thick and sumptuous." He adds "It is tempting to argue whether it is the Cairanne or Rasteau cuvées that are better, but frankly, everything that emerges from Rabasse-Charavin possesses plenty of fruit, character and quality."
