Portale
Located on the instep of Italys boot, the region of Basilicata is
sandwiched between Puglia & Campania. Tenuta del Portale owns 15
hectares that form part of the Aglianico del Vulture DOC area.
Crucial to the success of this noble black grape, Aglianico, whose roots date back to the Greek colonies at the time of Christ, is the free-draining volcanic & clay soils which lie at 500 metres above sea level on the slopes of Monte Vulture; such a terroir extends the hang-time, so allowing complex aromas & flavours to develop.
Signora Filena Ruppi now dedicates her life to producing the grapes finest expression. The wine undergoes 20 months of gentle ageing in large oak barrels (botte), so that its subtler aromatics and flavours are well preserved.
