Redwood Valley

Nelson, at the top of the South Island, is renowned for having more sunshine hours than any other region in the country. In 1973 Austrian-born Hermann Seifried and his New Zealand wife Agnes bought land in the Moutere Valley between Nelson and Motueka with the intention of planting strawberries. Fortunately, they planted vines instead.

In 1979 they purchased a further 16 hectares of vineyards at Redwood Valley. Winemaker Daniel Schwarzenbach crafts discreet and elegant Sauvignon Blancs, Rieslings and Chardonnays with a particular emphasis on purity of fruit and with very judicious use of oak in the maturation process.
