Mount Edward
Alan Brady, an Irish-born journalist, built his reputation as one of Central Otago's top Pinot Noir producers with Gibbston Valley in the 1980s. Needing a new challenge, he retired as Chief Executive of Gibston Valley and channelled his energy into a new project at Mount Edward. It is a small specialist Pinot Noir winery, where Alan can indulge in some personal winemaking ideas without the commercial pressures of a bigger operation.
It is an intensely personal project for Brady, who has a hands-on involvement at every stage, from growing the grapes to selling the wines. Today it is one of the very best sources of Pinot Noir in New Zealand. The only problem is that production is very small, so supplies to the UK are strictly rationed!
