A-F Gros
Anne Gros has been in charge of this Domaine since taking over for her father over ten years ago.
It is now called A-F Gros & François Parent as A-F Gros married the latter.
The new domaine consists of Anne-Françoise’s shares of Domaine Jean Gros, additional wines in and around Vosne-Romanée which she has bought or leased, and her husband’s share of Domaine Parent. He also offers wines under his own label.
Anne-Françoise is the third generation to estate-bottle her production being the granddaughter of Gustave Gros and daughter of Jean and Jeanine Gros.
She has holdings in Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle Musigny and Savigny complemented by small holdings in the Grands Crus Echezeaux and Richebourg. Yields are kept low through strict pruning and a crop-thinning vendange verte (green harvest).
The grapes are hand-harvested and then destemmed before undergoing a three-day cold maceration. The wines aged in barrels for 12 to 18 months and all the wines are racked three times and bottled without fining or filtering. For the maturation of the wines, 30% new barrels are used for the generic wines, 50% for the village wines and 80% for the grands crus.
Richebourg 0.60 ha
Clos de Vougeot 0.93 ha
Echezeaux 0.76 ha
Vosne Romanée Les Barreaux 0.39 ha
Chambolle Musigny Combe d’Orveau 1.10 ha
Hautes Côtes de Nuits (white & red) 1.63 ha
Bourgogne Rouge 0.80 ha
Vosne Romanée Les Barreaux
A powerful cuvee from this north facing hillside site where the grapes ripen slowly, never rot, and give a deep coloured wine thanks to the iron-rich soil. The wine is typically in a red rather than black fruit register, with energy and minerality.
Clos de Vougeot
Anne Gros’ holding is very well placed in the Grand Maupertuis sector, in the upper part of the Clos and towards the south. For those who wish for some elegance in their Clos de Vougeot, as well as underlying power, then this is a first class example.
