Domaine De Gourgazaud
Domaine de Gourgazaud can trace its origins back to the 17th century and
it is located in the South of France in the hills of the Minervois
region (30 kms north-east of Carcassonne). The foothills of the Montagne
Noir between Beziers and historic Carcassone provide a perfect vinous
amphitheatre, with evolved limestone soils, finely appointed vineyards and the
potential for an almost perfect growing season.
Here Roger Piquet and his enterprising daughters have built up the formidable reputation of this fine property that now consists of 90 hectares of vineyards. With a production divided between the Appellation Contrôlleé of Minervois (including the unofficial "Cru" Livinière enclave) and Vin De Pays, Domain Gourgazaud has a consistently impressive portfolio.
The white wine is produced from grapes cultivated in limestone-rich soils. The Chardonnay grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness before being de-stalked and then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. A small proportion of the wine finishes its fermentation in small oak barrels. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 9-12 months.
