Château Batailley
The name Batailley is said to derive from a "bataille" fought 600 years ago between the French and the English on the same spot as the present property. It is located in the south of the commune of Pauillac on the road to St-Laurent.
Château Batailley is owned by Emile Casteja of the famous negociants, Borie-Manoux. The 55 hectares of vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 25%, Cabernet Franc 3%, Petit Verdot 2%) undulate on a deep gravel bed, underpinned by a clay & limestone subsoil. Vinification takes place in a mixture of oak, stainless steel, and cement vats, followed by 18 months maturation in oak barriques (50% new).
Château Batailley is classified as a 5ème Cru Classé and is one of the best value wines in Pauillac.

Dark purple colour with intense flavours of ripe black fruit, cedar, and rich, toasty oak. Lush and full-bodied with a very long finish, this really is enticing. Though traditional in style the abundance of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) in the blend has created an extremely hedonistic wine. Drink 2010-2024 .

"Always a tight-fisted, traditionally-styled Pauillac that performs better at ten years of age, the 2000 Batailley reveals a dark ruby color along with sweet black currant fruit presented in an uncomplicated, medium-bodied, firmly tannic, well-delineated style. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020." ... MORE
