Driftwood

Driftwood

Tom Galopoulos, who made his money from Perth supermarkets, bought Driftwood Estate in Margaret River in 1987 as a welcome country retreat. After planting a few vines as a hobby, Tom decided to turn his vines into a commercial venture. The first vintage was in 1993. The vineyard, all in one plot, covers 30 hectares, and consists of soils that are perfect for growing the grapes from which winemaker Steve Pester crafts immaculate intense refined wines - sandy loam for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, clay for Chardonnay, and gravel for Cabernet Sauvignon. Yet another name to look out for on the growing Margaret River scene.
