Morris
In 1851 George Francis Morris was lured from his native Bristol to Victoria by the prospect of striking it rich with gold. The mining was fruitless but he made enough money from selling provisions to other would be miners to be able to purchase 90 hectares of land on the rich Brown`s Plain near Rutherglen. He planted 4 hectares of vines and within 30 years the wines were being hailed internationally. The company remained family owned until it was bought by Orlando in 1970. Today the wines are made by David, the son of the legendary Mick Morris. The historic liqueur Muscats and Tokays are some of the greatest fortified wines in Australia.
