Château Grand-Jean
A large estate located just outside the village of Soulignac, 25 miles south-east of the city of Bordeaux. Soulignac is essentially a white wine-making commune, though notable reds are now being regularly produced. Proprietor Michel Dulon has 71 hectares of vineyards, 33 hectares planted with red wine grapes and 28 hectares with white wine grapes.
The red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (30%) and Cabernet Franc (15%) - it consistently outperforms its humble AC Bordeaux status and usually shows at its best 3-4 years after the vintage. A crisp, elegant and deliciously pure White Bordeaux, made from a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Colombard and Muscadelle, is also produced.
