Azienda Agricole Paitin
In 1796 Benedetto Elia (Paitin) purchased a vineyard of 2 hectares in
Serra Boella. 30 years later he bought 2 more hectares of Nebbiolo and Barbera vineyards, with a
house and cellar. In 1893 his grandson Giuseppe restructured the cellar and
started to bottle Barbaresco Sorì Paitin. After seven generations, in 1965,
Secondo Pasquero Elia took over the winery and now runs it with Secondo
and sons Silvano and Giovanni assisted by consultant oenologist
Beppe Caviola.
The estate now consists of 15 hectares of vineyards, 5 of which are located in the Alba Zone, near Diano. The other 10 hectares are in Neive's Brico di Neive fraction and include small parcels of the indigenous varietals Dolcetto, Barbera and Arneis as well as imports such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Syrah. The heart of the estate, however, is the 4.5 hectares of vineyard planted with Nebbiolo in the Paitin cru of the Bricco di Neive, averaging an altitude of 320 metres with an impressive south-western exposure.
The estate's Barbarescos are assertive wines which display sinew, muscle and tension of the highest degree allied with the slick smoothness that defines this prestigious appellation.
