Domaine Jean-Claude Martin
The young Jean-Claude has been running this 12-hectare family domain with his wife Jacqueline since 1981. He is a firm believer in culture raisonnée, which stops short of organic viticulture, but shows a commitment to minimal interference, with fertilisers and sprays used only when absolutely vital.
In a region where many top growers use mechanical harvesting, Jean-Claude insists on entirely hand picking and rigorously selecting the fruit. He aims to pick fully ripe fruit and this often leads to Jean-Claude harvesting up to 10 days later than other growers. This traditional ethos continues in the winery, where the wine is made very much in a restrained style, with a classic mineral steeliness and no oak.
