Destilerias Mari Mayans
Founded in 1858 this Absinthe was created by Juan Mari Maynas and is still made today by his descendents from their destillery in Ibiza.
Absinthe itself was invented in 1792 by Dr. Pierre Ordinaire as an all-purpose remedy. It is made from a distillation of the leaves and stems of Artemisa Abisnthium (Wormwood) producing a startlingly green spirit that clouds when water is added.
During the 19th and 20th centuries Absinthe acquired a notorius reputation associated with the arts and was nicknamed "La Fee Verte" (The Green Fairy). Ernest Hemingway refers to it as "idea changing liquid alchemy".
