Hacienda Monasterio

Hacienda Monasterio is a relatively young estate that, under the direction of cult Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck, is now in the front ranks of Ribera producers. It was established in 1991 when a consortium of investors bought up 80 hectares of prime vineyard land that had become neglected over the years. New vines were planted and a state of the art winery was built in the Duero valley half way between Pesquera and Valbuena.

The vineyards are planted with mainly with Tinto Fino, though a few plots are set aside for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec. The wines (only crianza and reserva wines are produced) are matured in one-year old Bordeaux casks and the wines are consistently amongst the region's finest.
