Château Le Doyenné

A property that can trace its history back to 1791 and is described in the very first edition of Le Féret in 1858 as "le cru de Doyenné, un des meilleurs de la commune". It is located in the commune of Saint Caprais de Bordeaux, which in turn is situated in the appellation Premières Côtes de Bordeaux.

After the war, the estate fell into disrepair and the quality of the wine was nothing to write home about - in fact the whole production was sold to the local co-operative. The catalyst for change came with the Château`s acquisition in the early 1990s by Marie Dominique Watrin, an industrial chemist by trade. She has introduced new techniques in the 8 hectares of vineyards, as well as constructing a brand-new chai and winery in 1994.

The red is a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc and is fast becoming one of the stars of the appellation. There is also a minuscule production of around 60 cases of white wine, made from a blend of 40% Sémillon, 40% Muscadelle and 20% Sauvignon Blanc.
