Fattoria Badia di Morrona
Badia di Morrona,
perched high on a ridge to the south-west of Florence, has a long and
illustrious history. Records show it was managed by the monks up to 1482 and
continued to be owned by the church up to 1870, when, with the reunification of
the Italian state, the Church's properties were confiscated and Badia di
Morrona was sold as a country house.
It is now owned by Count Gaslini Alberti. It is located in the midst of the Pisan hills in the north-west of the Chianti appellation and the estate covers about 500 hectares with 60 hectares of vineyards planted with Sangiovese, Cannaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
Winemaker Corrado Dal Piazza produces a small selection of exemplary wines, which range from the mouthwatering Chianti I Sodi del Paretaio, which is produced from a blend of Sangiovese and Cannaiolo, through to the stunning Vign'alta, a 100% Sangiovese wine produced from the finest vineyards on the estate.
