Geh'rat Aschrott

Franz Künstler was one of Germany`s pre-eminent, post-war winemakers, working for 11 years as winemaker at Domdechant Werner. Over the years he acquired small parcels of vines and finally all of the vineyards of the Von Jungenfeld estate and started producing wine himself. His son Gunter joined him in the cellars in 1988 and in 1992 assumed total control of the estate. Today it is arguably the top estate in Hochenheim.

Gunter Künstler produces both dry and sweet Rieslings from 7 hectares of vineyards in Hochheim. Its vineyards are planted almost entirely to Riesling and possess some of the best exposure and climate in all of the Rheingau. In 1996 Künstler bought the neglected Aschrott estate in Hochenheim and achieved instant success with his first wines produced there.
