Domaine Perrin

The Domaine Perrin is owned and operated by the Perrin family of the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate Château de Beaucastel.

As with the wines at Beaucastel, the Domaine Perrin wines are impeccably made and reflect the true nature of the terroir from which they come. The wines made are all from the neighbouring Southern Rhône appellations to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, such as Vacqueyras and Gigondas. The reds are based on Grenache, but with other Rhône grape varieties, such as Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault.

The Perrins are one of the most reliable wine families in the Rhône valley, truly a name to look out for.

We love the wines from this village which is a little more sheltered than Gigondas. They are generally generous of fruit with a rounded, almost velvety texture. Vinsobres is, according to Marc Perrin, the natural homestead of the Syrah variety, its altitude and geographical make-up perhaps not dissimilar to the Northern Rhône. Les Cornuds is accordingly beautifully perfumed, with notes of jasmine and lavender highlighting a savoury mid-palate flourish and ripe and expressive fruit overlaying silky tannins. A serious wine from a serious vintage, L’Andéol is a five hectare vineyard, located on the gentle south-facing slopes of Rasteau which are protected from the worst excesses of the Mistral. This is a great expression of Grenache, with peppers, figs, dark chocolate and spices in the ascendant, and a finely-wrought tannic structure discrete in the background. MORE Drink: 2012 -2015 . From five hectares in the heart of Rasteau, L’Andeol is a scenic and, as one’s eEstate Agent may say, beautifully appointed vineyard. South-facing, and protected from the wilder excesses of the Mistral, the vines yield fruit of very high quality, their make-up being 60% Grenache and equal measures of Syrah and Mourvèdre. Kirsch, forest floor and black cherry aromatics and then a spicy palate with indulgent charcuterie notes and even hints of dark chocolate, presuming that such a combination does not sound too off-putting!
